The Zombiefish welcomes you!
This domain has been online for more than twenty years, although not always in the same form.
Its earliest known incarnation hosted a small virtual postcard service called White Zombiefish Postcards. The name predates most surviving records. Archived references still exist, but the original images and messages are considered lost.
When automated spam began to overwhelm much of the early web, maintaining the service became impractical. The site was eventually taken offline and remained dormant for a long period, responding only with placeholder pages and parked-domain notices.
It was assumed inactive.
Some years later, zombiefish.de returned as a minimalist weblog — largely consisting of translated texts inspired by Leo Babauta’s Zen Habits. Portions of this material circulated for a while before gradually disappearing again. It is unclear whether all removals were intentional.
Around 2016, another iteration emerged: fragments of writing, technical experiments, and small collections of thoughts preserved without a clear publishing rhythm. Certain pages persisted across multiple rebuilds despite not being included in later deployments.
Some of these pages continue to resolve correctly.
Current status
Throughout its existence, zombiefish.de has primarily functioned as an experimental environment.
Custom-written software was replaced by various blog systems, which in turn gave way to different content management installations. The site currently operates on webEdition, although remnants of earlier structures remain detectable.
Content updates may occur irregularly.
Administrative activity is not always visible from the outside.
Occasionally, files appear whose modification dates precede the present installation. These are usually retained for compatibility reasons, unless instability is observed.
Routine maintenance has reduced unexpected reappearances.
The zombiefish is often inactive for extended periods.
Historically, this has not prevented further activity.
